What should I do as an English teacher to foreign students? Click for details.?

I teach English to Upper Intermediate and Advanced foreign students and I’m kinda famous for speaking quickly in the school I work but I’m not sure if that’s acceptable. should I slow down or what? thanx.

Your students may face other people who speak just as fast in future so it might be good for them to get used to fast speakers now.

On the other hand, if you’re going too fast for them to catch what you’re saying, that defeats the purpose. Why don’t you ask them? Do a survey (maybe with other questions if you want to mask this question for some reason) or a simple poll.

I think that you should definitely slow down. I am a foreign language teacher (who also has a problem with speaking too fast) and I notice that when I am speaking fast, my student’s effective filter raises, and they become very frustrated. When I slow down, they are more relaxed, and understand more of what I am trying to explain.

Have mercy. Foreign students, as you probably already know are slow to complain and would appreciate a break in the tempo.. Good luck

if they speak french or spanish id buy a spanish-english or french-english dictionary, and try to teach them the language slowly. most schools have a special class for students where they can learn english. id check that out also, good luck!!!

I think CJ means “affective filter”…… meaning the students become frustrated and this blocks their ability to learn.

Slow down.

If you’re not comprehensible, they’re not learning. Duh.
