To give a rudimentary grasp to all and to serve as a tool for advanced independent studies for those who desire more information or actually absorbed all of what you taught.

My daugher is a Golden Apple winner (Ill.) and she has wonderful attitudes and philosophies about teaching. She believes it is her job to reach each student, encouage them, understand they have a life outside of school, which can be wrought with problems. She believes making the task fun. She’s creative and inventive and finds new ways to teach a difficult lesson. The students need to respond to her commands (for example, in order to gain control of a noisy classroom, she simply turns out the lights for a moment, and they know she means business). The students must be able to approach the teacher without fear of reprimand. No questions are stupid. She is approachable and friendly and understanding. The students must respect her instructions and ask if they don’t understand. The education institution must be responsive to parents concerns, the student’s concern and the teacher’s concerns. They must provide a safe environment with the supplies and equipment needed. These are just a few ideas.

Too big of a question to be completely answered here… but in a nutshell:

The role of the institution is to get students into college and have them perform successfully.

The role of the teacher is to have rigorous, relevant and student empowering teaching so that students master the standards and succeed in education and life.

The role of the student is to be prepared in attitude to learn and to do their best in all endeavors.
