Don’t give up your love of art however. Speaking from a music teacher’s standpoint…..if I had it to do over again, I think I would major in something else and have a music minor. There are just too many uncertainties these days.

Assuming you are an art major if you have several courses in art history they may allow you to teach some history classes. If you have enough units in your minor you could certainly teach classes in that subject area. There are also tests you can take that would allow you to teach courses that you have some units in provided you pass the test. You need to check out the requirements for the state in which you hope to teach and go from there. It never hurts to have a strong minor. Math, science and Spanish are three very marketable minors.
