TEACHERS, lesson plan idea!?

My sixth graders are learning about population and population density under the heading “Earth’s Human Geography.” I have ideas, but I also need it to be cost-effective since I don’t want to have a lot of out-of-pocket expenses, and the children I teach are not exactly rich either.

Help students to explain patterns of human settlement in regions and explain how these patterns were influenced by climate, landforms, soils, vegetation, bodies of water. Discover through research which 3 regions are most densly populated and 3 least populated. Divide the class into five groups (climate, landforms, soils, vegetation, bodies of water) to chart and report their findings about these 6 regions. Use a map and the internet or reference books. Make a class summary of the findings or have students answer an open-ended question to evaluate their mastery.

Perhaps talk to your supervisor about a department budget? Or maybe create a fund raiser that the entire school can participate in.

I suggest to get more of children than you have or show your idea to ad hoc geography person
