A lot depends on the state in which you are residing. Many states now offer a program called the Alternative Certification Program (or ACP program). This is a way for people who have already obtained a college degree to obtain their teaching credentials. If it is available in your area it would allow you to take a teaching courses while simultaneously teaching in a school district under the auspices of the ACP program. Usually there are one or two prerequisite courses that are either available at night or during the summer. Then the ACP program helps you to find a job where you work while completing other coursework. Check out the Teach Now website to find information about your state.

Another possibility is joining an organization such as Teach For America, whose goal is to place people with degrees in other areas as teachers in areas that desperately need them.
