IS there a way to protest the school making me be a full time senior?

I have 22 credits we need 24 to graduate but i still have english 4 and my math to take and goverment and economics but my school is making me choose extra classes to fill my schedule that i dont need because they said everyone has 2 be full time students. not to mention we have to have 75 hours of service learning which will be another extra credit i dont need

My son is in the same boat as you. If you have the excellent grades throughout school and you are 18, theoretically, you should be able to do what you want. I would start by calling your school system’s main administrative offices.

I’m the same way mostly. I only need 3 classes in order to graduate: English, Math, and Government, but I have to take 6-7 toal for senior year. It’s not bad that you’ve exceeded the minimum. I’ve done that in almost every field (Below is my school’s requirement and what I’ll have done by the time I actually graduate):

My School

Foreign Language: 2 credits

English: 4 credits

Math: 4 credits with all students taking math senior year

Science: 3 credits

Gym: 1/2 credit

Health: 1/2 credit

Visual/Performing Arts: 1 credit

Social Studies: 4 credits

Community Service: 40 hours

Me

Foreign Language: 4 credits

English: 4 credits

Math: 4 credits (may end up being 5)

Science: 4 credits

Gym: 1/2 credit

Health: 1/2 credit

Visual/Performing Arts: 3 credits

Social Studies: 4 credits

Community Service: (at the moment is 100 hours)

I’ve gone well above what I absolutely have to do, but it’s a very good thing, particularly with college apps.

If you aren’t 18 yet the school is responsible for your whereabouts during the school day, so they can’t have you running in and out for classes. Their alternative is to have your battered young carcass discovered in the closet of whichever pervert who snatched you during school hours, and then they’d be responsible for not having watched you.

So hang around the school and learn something while you’re there. And try to choose your battles more wisely: school authorities almost always win, and in this case there’s not much reward anyway.

When I was in school, a lot of the people in your situation would sign up for the work release program. They had their needed classes in the morning then had the afternoon off to work – you did need to prove you had a job and you couldn’t lose your job either. You may want to see if this is an option at your school.
