I”m taking music theory AP this year and the first thing my teacher taught me were. FACE, Every good boy does fine. etc. where the notes are.

Than he went on to treble cleff/bass.

Than sharps and flats

Than tonic, supertonic

and that’s were we are at now.

Start with the piano.

Notes. Then simple major scales.

Don’t do cleffs until they know note names and a few major scales. I would teach basic treble, basic bass, (like not too far up or down) and then expand from there.

Keep working on learning more scales, knowing the steps in between the notes (whole steps and half)

Then I would probably work on tempo, dymanics, stuff like that.
