if i have a higher IQ than a so called “professor” at a college, does that make me smarter than him\her?

IQ is only one measure of “smartness.” You could have a high IQ but not have learned much in school, so you would not be as well informed as a professor, nor have his/her ability to think.
As for the professor. They know more than you do about the subject they are teaching…which is why they are teaching it to you. This doesn’t mean that they necessarily have more common sense (which is the most needed quality of any person in any field or subject), but it does mean they know more about what they are teaching.
Most professors have great credentials both from being in a classroom (degrees) as well as real world experience, I would hardly say that most have cheated their way through college.
I do have a beef with many professors though. Nearly all are experts in their field and extremely knowledgeable, but few know how to really teach. I noticed this while in college and found that the majority of my professors that really knew how to teach, were my professors in my education (teaching) classes.
As for your boyfriend, to put it bluntly, it sounds like he needs to get his head out of his you know what.
There are 5 year olds with a higher IQ than me because it is based on your learning capacity compared to those of the same age. But to find a 5 year old that is smarter than me is unlikely.
Most people like to make faculty appear less smart so that it justifies their own laziness and ineptitude. It doesn’t mean that he’s wrong, but I would bet that he is.
– How do you know you have a higher IQ?
– What difference does it make if you need them to impart you with knowledge?
– What is the value / relevancy of a high IQ if the person possessing it has less knowledge than someone with a lower IQ?
Some government agencies now use a multitude of tests, given they aren’t as culturally biased (they still are conducted in English / require word knowledge – harder for ESL) and better reflect the range of intelligences (given there are 8) as well as personality tests (which seem to better reflect life learning / skill acquisition).
Lastly, I’m sure your IQ is higher than mine, but fortunately I’m able to use the knowledge I have to make my own decisions – also a test of intelligence (even bad decisions if you learn from them – before someone calls me out on this).
If you think the correct standard for measuring intelligence is indeed IQ, then yep, you’d be smarter. But believe me, IQ isn’t a good standard (or even a good and objective test).
