I’m taking English 3 honors,how should I prepare myself?

Well,I went to a terrible school that never taught.Currently in a new school, that actually teaches.I was and still I’m quite nervous because I don’t want to feel behind. So,I’ve been studying several subjects.I’m already working extra hard on U.S history and Algebra which are stressing me.

Since I’m taking English 3 honors should I expect anything?

I got an A in my English 2 class and my English teacher told me I was good at essays,so she said I’ll do good in English 3 honors. Can anyone inform me in anything I should know in order to prepare?

Perhaps, catch up on proper grammar or learn new vocabulary words?

School begins Monday,Aug 20th.

Read English a lot. Try to analize any sentence that seems vague to you.

Grammar is important, I admit, but grammar through context will help a lot.

Make a good dictionary your companion. Always look up the words you know and the words you don’t.

While looking up a word, it is not only the meaning that matters; you will have to get to know: the meaning, the part of speach, usage notes (if any), synonyms, antonyms and most important of all is an example explaining the word.

It’s hard work, I admit, but you seem a serious scholar and want to get along with your studies. It’s worth, isn’t it?

The best way to prepare for English advanced classes is to read. And the best books to read are the Classics. These novels help to advance your vocabulary and build your reading comprehension skills.

Go to your school librarian and tell her that you would like to prepare for English and ask for a suggested reading list. She will know exactly which books will prepare you for the curriculum at your specific school.

Good luck
