Yes! We work with 20 or more “clients” at a time. We spend many hours outside of the typical school day preparing lessons and materials. We spend a lot of our own money to make our classrooms better. We teach everyone, doctors, lawyers, CEOs to read, write, and do math. Now we are parents b/c to many parents can’t discipline or care for their children properly. We are underappreciated and underpaid.

It depends upon the teacher. Some teachers do miracles in the their classrooms on a daily basis and still barely make enough money to support their own families. Other teachers have outstayed their effectiveness in the classroom, yet continue to pull in very decent salaries. Over all, it is a shame how little teaches are paid for the amazing and time consume work they do. Then again, at least they are above the poverty level, which can’t be said for a huge percentage of people in our country. So, though it is a fairly meager sum most teachers earn, perhaps they should count their lucky starts and feel blessed that they have any job at all. I know I’d feel quite wealthy on even a starting teacher’s salary right now.

It would be nice to be paid more. We spend a lot of our own money in the classroom. But it’s not like I can complain too much. I chose this job knowing how the pay would be.
