Unfortantly yes.

This is this case in my district.

Although school board officals don’t generally get paid, or really have any “powers”, as they live in a small district using those “powers” tends to make them feel important…which the yare not.

That is not reserved for small school districts.

There are large districts where it also occurs.

However, there are also small districts where it does not occur.

It really depends on the individuals on the school board along with the tolerance of the voting populance to place (or re-elect) those board members who partake in such practices.

Personally, I question the motives of school board members. Being a member is a long houred, thankless job. Members do not get paid for their services. Therefore, many people who run for school boards have alterior motives. Taking these motives into account is VERY important to any school board elelction.

Luckily, the district where I teach has a school board and a voting electorate that does not tolerate such unprofessional behavior. By the way, I teach in a relatively large district. 12,000 students, 12 buildings, and over 1000 professional staff.

Unfortunately, I would think yes. Also I am pretty sure this is not only limited to school boards in smaller districts. It kind of seems nowadays that anyone with “power” tend to use their “power” to settle grudges.
