Anyone in Georgia know how to get on with the TAPP program?

I currently hold a bachelor’s degree and am interested in becoming a certified teacher. My degree is in Social Sciences which (from my research) leaves me with a lot of options for subjects I would be qualified to teach. I live in the Northwest GA area and the only school district which participates is Paulding County, which is fine. I’ve filled out all of the necessary paperwork. I have not heard anything and I am not sure how likely it is that I will hear something.

From what I have located, you have to have a job offer at a participating school/school district. I passed the Praxis I a few years ago, but have not taken the GACE or Praxis II. Is there anything I can do to get a job offer and get into this program for teacher certification? Are there any other programs available that I do not know about?

You have to be offered a job before you’re allowed in the TAPP program. And I hate to say it, but most Counties don’t participate. They say “non-certified need not apply”. If you want to work in Paulding, you need to make yourself known to all the principals. They are the ones to hire you. Send you resume to each and every school that offers your subject. You can get mailing/email info at http://public.doe.k12.ga.us. You’ll have to look up Paulding County.

They no longer use the Praxis tests. They have new subject matter tests. Check out www.gapsc.com

I’m a graphic designer in Northeast Georgia and I’m trying to get on through the Vocational program. It’s another alternative to certification. But I may also go back to school and get certified the traditional way while earning my Masters. I haven’t made up my mind.

Most schools hire in January for the following year unless they unexpectedly loose a teacher in the middle of the year.
