a question for teachers?
so should ii be majoring in math and take a minor in education ?
and afterwards ii would have to go into the graduate school ?
and it would realllly help if someone could tell me the entire process of becoming a teacher.
ii was trying to look it up and people were mentioning credentials and different degrees and that they allow you to do different things? like be principal and adminstrator and stuff like that.
and ii live in california btw, if you couldn’t tell from my university choices.. lol.

You do not need to have a minor in education unless you want to try the classes out. Just get your BA/BS in the subject that interests you. Once you have your degree, you apply to the schools education department to get your teaching credential. It is usually a program 1-2 years in lenghth that supplies all the education courses you need as well as the correct tests and student teaaching that is required for your credential.
Depending on the school, you can earn it concurrently with your BS. Just start looking into it once youve completed your basic requirements (around your sophmore year in college)
so short version:
BA/BS in subject that interests you
Credential program
thats it
once you are certified to teach you can always go back to school to earn an administrative credential if that interests you.
In order to be a principal, there are special master’s programs for that. These require actual teaching experience to get into them. Not sure what requirements administrators need.
Algebra rocks!! 🙂 Good Luck!!!
Good luck and have fun.
