Should I become a finacial advisor or a lawyer?

I am 15 and a sophmore and for me high school is flying by.. I really want to figuring what college I want to go to.. Right now I have two main ones.. One for becoming a lawyer (corporate) and one for becoming a finacial advisor.. Can anyone give me insight about these jobs.. If I can figure it out I can pick what electives I need next year and I can pick out more colleges.

You could combine the two jobs and become a finance or banking lawyer. Becoming a lawyer can be a very long and tedious process, law school is competitive, and normally take the cream of the top, when it comes to admitting students. You would have to have top grades, a very good GPA, and good scores on the LSATS to enter law school. Law school is also very expensive, and many new lawyers do not necessarily make a fortune once they graduate, it takes time to build up a client base.

With finance, you would need to major in fiance or business, and you could get your masters in business. Finance has many areas you could work in, but it requires you to be good at numbers and financial accounting software programs, plus now having a good understanding of economics and higher statistics.

I practiced law for 8 years. Although I enjoyed parts of it, I generally did not enjoy it. In fact, most of my colleagues did not like it either. But, there are plenty of financial advisors that are unhappy.

My best advice is either get internships in both fields so you can see what the job is really like. Or, try to talk to people who are working in these fields. Many people take a year off before going to law school to work as paralegals. Without being in a law firm environment day after day you will not know what it really means to be a lawyer until you have completed law school and have huge debts.
