To be blunt and honest, quit whining about it! Get out there and DO something! Talk to people! If you stay inside, use your mother tongue, you will NEVER learn a new language. That’s just the way it is.

Some things that will help … movies, DVDs, TV. That will help your listening skills. Try turning on the closed captions, that will put written English across the bottom.

But .. QUIT WAITING, START DOING!

It is really hard making a new start in a new country where so many things are different. I am sure your English is quite good and all you need is practice. You need to do something outside your family so you have to use English. Try some sort of volunteer work or classes, I don’t know what is available in your area but there will be something. Go to the library. Go on Craigslist that has volunteering opportunities in cities all over the US. It won’t be easy, but you have to decide to do it and then go ahead. Good Luck.

clue one: use spell check on your computer. if the yahoo spell check isn’t working, which it usually isn’t, then you have a on-board one that does work. also, read english books and get a grasp of the language, written form. best and quick way to ‘get there’? newspapers are a wonderful source. hope this helps. when writing for school, have someone who knows check what you’ve written and have them offer suggestions. trial by error. if it is any help, be it known that it will take years to master the written word. speaking english can be done within a year but the written word? much longer. also, stay away from the slang & street creds. way too complicated for now!

Be proud of yourself and where you are from…and most girls love a guy with an accent anyways (and vice versa). You’re unique and intriguing!!

Go ahead – Strike up a conversation!

Or, find a buddy who you could meet with once or twice a week to just “chat” and you will learn quickly.

Best of Luck!! : )
