It was COMPLETELY worth it. The best experience of my life. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat if I could.
What you pack all depends on where you’re going and the climate. I know I had to bring fairly warm clothes because in New Zealand at night it got pretty chilly.
The meetings were fine. It was a great time to start to get to know the people you’re going to travel with. They just ask you general “ice breaking” questions to try to get to know you better.
Good luck!
I’ve had students travel on different programs… ask yourself, do you want to travel in a group and sightsee as a tourist? Or do you want to immerse yourself in language and culture, and live as a person of that culture?
If you just want to be a tourist, P2P is fine.
If you want more of a cultural experience, try a homestay program. Check out www.afs.org or www.nacelopendoor.org or www.yfu.org
Summer programs are about 3k, semester – year programs are around 5-6k. More bang for your buck.
