P2P as it is commonly abbreviated is not a scam. I took a trip to Europe with them five summers ago and it was a wonderful experience. They took about 40 kids from the same area as me on a 20 day trip to 6 northern European countries. It was fun because some of the kids were from my school so I wasn’t uncomfortable about not knowing anyone. We had three orientation meetings to get to know each other too. By the time the trip was over I’d made a lot of friends and still talk to about half of them even though it’s been so long and they don’t all live close anymore. I think it cost around 4000 but they help pay by setting up fundraisers for you. I think we sold candy bars, had a car wash, bagged groceries, etc. We visited a lot of historic places and learned a lot. The most interesting part was that it was a European Heritage trip which was supposed to connect us with our ancestors who came from overseas. I’d do it again in a heartbeat.

A teacher at my son’s school nominated certain students. We recently received the Japan letter. Same with a program at John Hopkins. They likely got your name from your school. I know kids who have done the student ambassador program and had a good time and felt it was educational and worthwhile. The price for the trips are reasonable for what they are, but they do cost quite a bit of money. The cost depends on where the trip is to. You can do fundraisers to help raise money for the trip. Local newspapers may be willing to run a story about you trying to participate in the program, to help raise money. I’ve seen articles in local papers. Good luck!

I am SO happy I saw this question! People to People has changed my LIFE! it was by far the most rewarding experience of my life. I’m so happy that I got the experience to do it.

It IS a reliable program. I traveled to Australia and New Zealand for 3 weeks and had the time of my life.

– Prices vary depending on your destination. I believe mine was around $5,000.

– It is VERY interesting. It’s not school stuff. You do fun activities everyday.

– You learn so much about the cultures you’re in because you’re immersed in it, without having to worry about language issues.

-My trip was 3 weeks, like I said. We flew into Australia where we went straight to.. like a petting zoo. I got to hand feed Kangaroos and I even got to hold (and take a picture!) with me and a koala. We went snorkeling in the Great Barrier Reef, I got to see inside the Sydney Opera House, and I even walked across the Sydney Harbour Bridge! I got to feed dolphins, and meet all sorts of really cool Australian people. Lots of shopping πŸ˜€ In New Zealand we took a ferry and a train. We went repelling, and mountian climbing (really not as bad as it souns, and i was out of shape!), we stayed with a family for 2 nights (the ONLY home stay I had).

I stayed in wonderful Hotels and Motels the entire time. Nothing at all to worry about! I think that if your cousin has the opportunity to go to a meeting that she should. It’s definitely something that is worth it!

If you have ANY questions feel free to ask! [email protected]

I could write a book on this. πŸ˜€

Tell her its nothing to worry about, I just got back a month ago, and it was amazing! No it’s not a scam, My 3 week trip to Europe cost $5,000, keep in mind everything is paid for except for your souvenirs. My trip was very interesting! My favorite part was staying with my host family, they were amazing, and I was just thinking about them. What I learned… man it’s alot to type. If you want more info just go to my page and E-mail me, I will be happy to tell you anything. She will have FUN!

There were 31 of us, and we went to a meeting every month for about 10 months, I was very prepared, I kinda knew some people, but when the trip was over I knew everyone, and something about therm, those people are like family, I visited everything that you could think of, The Queen of England, Buckingham Palace, The Eiffel Tower, The leaning Tower of Pisa, and everything in between!

It’s a really good program and is pretty legit. It tends to be pretty pricey but it’s reasonable. Somebody else on here said that it’s roughly double what you would spend going on your own but that doesn’t seem to account for a lot of the stuff you get to actually do when you get there. I was invited multiple times year after year and went on a few of them. One of them as an athletic version of the program and the others standard. It was really good fun and you meet a lot of really cool people. You’re nominated by somebody to the program. Usually you’re not supposed to know who it is but I was personally nominated by teachers at my school and once I entered junior high I was nominated by the mayor. It’s a really good experience and looks really really good on college applications. To be honest if you’re probably only going to go once, I suggest you do it later on in high school, you’ll get more out of it and the chaperones tend to be more lenient with what you’re allowed to do and hence less uptight about everything. If you can afford to go though, do it.

My friend went and she had such a great time. She went to austria and actually played volleyball there. Many people say its a rip-off and a scam but its not. Sure it cost quite a bit of money but what doesn’t these days. I think her trip cost about $5,000. My friend and I got choosen for the trip to England, Wales and Ireland i’m deffinatly going to the meeting. If you happen to get one just reserve you seat at a meeting and check it out. It doesn’t hurt to see.

P2P is a reliable program.

It is comparatively expensive.

I’ve had students travel on P2P, and through other programs. In my opinion, P2P is more vacation, and less real cultural experience. You travel, you sightsee, you experience something new. But there is no cultural or language immersion.

If your cousin wants to travel and sightsee, then P2P is an option.

If your cousin wants to gain some fluency skills in another language, and live immersed in a culture, get off the beaten path, then check out other opportunities. www.afs.org, www.nacelopendoor.org, www.yfu.org

It is reliable, not a scam.

It would depend on where you are coming from, and going to. I was going to go to Australia this summer but I changed my mind and it was about 6 thousand.

Yes, I believe it is very interesting. You do many things while there.

It depends on where you go, so if you would like to give detail on where your cousin was invited too? πŸ™‚

I was becoming a member, but I’m going to go to France & Spain this year instead (:
