G’day,

I do question CanProf’s list of institution ranks source though, since nothing has been approved by the Australian’s government (Dept of Education, Science and Technology) as the Australian university ranks. Lots of organisations try to create one for Australian & world universities, but with their own share of criticisms. Sure the list got some of the famous and big Australian universities, but none can claim that their graduates are more successful than the other.

La Trobe and Deakin are part of only 43 universities in Australia (including the ones in the list), all of them are fully accredited and tightly regulated, therefore the quality and recognition of their graduates are equal from wherever university you are studying from. The most important thing is that you have to READ the course information to make sure that you will study the right course, as some courses have the same name but the contents may be different in every uni.

When The Good Australian University Guide used to give The University of The Year award, Deakin University was the only university in Australia ever to receive the award twice (the last one in 1999). What I do know abt Deakin Uni is that it is not a big uni, so the teacher-student ratio is small, which means that the teaching staff can look after the students (especially international students) better. There are also support prepared for international students that bigger universities may not be able to do, due to the big student populations. However the same things may apply to La Trobe, since both are pretty much the same in regards to size.

Career opportunities will be the same from whichever uni you get your MBA degree from. Most important is your results and what achievements/activities have you done during your study time (eg. president of student club). Also what work experience have you got after graduated from your bachelor degree. With Masters qualification, you are looking at work at managerial level in Australia. However you can imagine the employers’ hesitation of hiring you with manager’s salary & responsibilities, but no work experience to back it up.

Hope this helps. Good luck for your study and welcome to Australia πŸ™‚
