Inexpensive Korean Student Exchange programs.?

I would really like to study abroad in South Korea but I don’t have a lot of money to spend. I would prefer a program under $5,000. I don’t even have that much money though. One for high school students ages 15-18. I’ve searched the internet and the cheapest one I found was $8,000.

Congratulations for wanting to do this. Unfortunately, that is the average price for an exchange year. But, there are ways you can help finance your own trip … especially if you are somewhat young and have a couple of years.

One way is scholarships. Many of the organizations offer scholarships and financial aid. Check into it (for a complete list of organizations authorized to operate in the US go to www.csiet.org).

Another way is personal fund raising. You can do everything from garage sales, working, writing organizations and asking for sponsorships. It really DOES work. The organization you select will have lots of ideas on how to do it!

Another thing to realize is that an exchange year often pays off in college with extra scholarship offers and priority in admissions. Plus, if you can truly learn the language and culture, you are worth more in the job market! So, the year is a good investment.

Good luck, I hope you realize your dream!
