I want to get into a major collage… how do I start preparing now?

Okay, my dream goal is to get into Standford, I am a straight A student, I am in the G.A.T.E program, I am in advanced math and advanced science. I will be taking Spanish as my second language next year for my entire high school experience. I may not get into standford though that’s my dream collage but I do intend on going to a major collage that is preferably well known. What can I do at this level to achieve my goal later in life?

I am a 4th year college student and my school is not necessarily a prestigious school but I believe it is one of the best schools in th U.S., because of its curriculum and what it has done for me. I just want to let you know that just because a school is deemed prestigious does not mean that it is a really good school nor that it is the best school for you. I always wanted to get into a prestigious school but knew that that would never be possible due to many circumstances for one I am a product of public schools and second no one in my family has ever gone to college so it is as if I was trying to form a building with no foundation. But I now know what is important when it comes to education.

Sorry for the length of my response but I felt it needed to be said. But the first step in preparing for entry into any college is acquiring good time management skills and study habits for with these tools you can acquire good grades which are essential (getting good grades is more difficult in highschool than it is in middleschool). Second you should try to actively participate in class and group activities/discussions because good communication skills will take you a long way in anything that you may do. Third take nontraditional courses or do other nontraditional things that will make you stand out as an applicant but also expand your knowledge of the world in which you live and/or your furture career. Of course there are other things you can do but these are what I feel are most important in preparation for college. Keep in mind that an all around good performance in class is key to getting the letters of recommendation letters you need for college from your teachers.

As lil_bit said, “good communication skills” are important. She didn’t mention writing, so I am. Write a journal, stories, poems, and even essays. The more you write the better you’ll get–I’m not saying that your writing is bad–it’s great–compared to many kids that post questions here. But even if your goal is math or science, you will stand out from others if you can explain the math and science, rather than just do the math or science.

Another skill that’s praised these days is video skills. Can you tell a story with a video camera? Can you video-tape a science experiment and make it look interesting?

If you keep your grades up, I don’t think you’ll have a problem.

This may sound a little critical but one of the first things you need to do is learn how to spell college. You spelled it collage. Another thing I believe may be important in a major university application is volunteer work. Also are you active in any sports or extra curricular activities? I’m not familiar with G.A.T.E. so this may cover that area.

It turns out as though you’re headed the proper course. Your grades are fairly well provided that they’re within the honors or AP degree. Yeah, I feel you’ve got sufficient additional-curricular’s for this 12 months. You should not pressure an excessive amount of approximately this as faculties seem most often at GPA, magnificence rank, and SAT/ACT rankings. What I advise you do is maintain up your grades and take honors or AP categories and get a head begin on learning for the SATs and ACT exams.

i don’t know what grade you are in, but don’t give up hope.

colleges look for the best person all around, and sometimes it’s not necessarily the smartest. yes grades and SAT scores are important, but things balance out.

i am in incoming freshman at UCSD, not bad huh? lOl.

all i can say is do some community service, or may i say a lot.

that can really help. taking college courses in high school also gives points and AP classes look nice. it is hard to tell you what to do or what not to do but i hope what i told you helps, and my best wishes.
