If neither one of your parents are legal or ‘green card’ holders you will not qualify for financial aid.

At least one parent has to have their permanent residency and green card as well as a social security card in order for YOU to apply for FAFSA and financial aid.

Basically you are a ‘cash pay’ student.

Do you have anyone in this country that is a citizen with good credit that could co-sign student loans with you?

Your other option is to take a minimum amount of classes and pay out of pocket for them. It sounds like you’re going to have to work your way through school.

You won’t be the first and certainly not the last to do it.

I have a similar case, I am a full time college student with multiple part-time jobs but i work and choosr to give my parents most of the money I earn because I’m still living with them and they are paying for most if not half of the school fees(to help them out). I see my family first before money but I have a lot of friends on the other hand who stress and worry about their own expenses living in a rented dorm(which are really expensive) and their increasing school fee loans without anyone to help them…

Start off by calling the federal processing center. Their number is on the website. Here is some information from fafsa site regarding your question:

How do I answer the tax questions if I (or my parents) don’t file a tax return?

Answer Will Not File to question 32 (Have you completed a tax return?).

You will then be taken to question 38 (Income earned from work).

Enter any monies earned from a job that is listed as taxed on a W2 form.

Then answer only those income questions that apply to you from that point on.

If your parents will not file a tax return:

Answer Will Not File to question 76 (Have your parents filed a tax return?).

You will then be taken to question 82 (Income earned from work).

Enter any money earned from a job that is listed as taxed on a W2 form.

Then answer only those income questions that apply to your parents from that point on.

If you cannot apply for federal aid you can apply for private loans. Sallie May is one lender I used when I had reached federal aid limits before.

Don’t use them. Take out a loan in your own name. Student loans don’t need to be paid back until after you leave school. Once you have your degree, you can get a decent job and start paying back. And most student loans will be approved…I was approved and I don’t even work, they know you’re a student and probably don’t have much income.

Your parents don’t pay taxes, yet you all want federal money to help you expand your options?
