Will not getting into National Honor Society (NHS) hurt me?

Hey I’m going to be a senior in high school and will apply to Cornell, Columbia, and some Honors Programs like Sophie-Davis. The only thing is that last year I didn’t get into NHS because in freshmen year I got caught cheating on a test. I’m pretty sure it didn’t come up on my transcript. So will not getting into NHS actually hurt my chances? (Even though i have good grades and a lot of volunteer stuff)

No you don’t have to be a member of NHS to have a good chance at college. But the reason why you didn’t get into NHS will. All schools pride themselves on students that work hard for their grades. Anytime a student cheats it reflects badly on the school(s).

I agree with the person above. But if you know the schools will find out about that cheating incident, write about it in your essay. Tell them how it changed your life, made you a better person, blah blah
