what should I do? I got a 3 on my AP Biology exam!?!?!?!?

is this a good score? I don’t think so. is there any way I can leave it off my transcipt or not send it to the colleges I will be applying to?I really want to go to UCB, and I think it would really hurt me if they saw it. I also took the AP Spanish exam my sophmore year and got a 5. Won’t they start wondering if my AP Spanish exam was a REAL 5? I mean, on my application, they’ll see I am Mexican-American. thanks…

A 3 won’t hurt your college applications. It might not get you any college credit (that’ll depend on what university you end up attending), but scores of 3, 4, and 5 are usually considered as positives at most colleges. 1 and 2 are neutral in most cases. Some universities don’t even look at AP scores on college applications–they just care about your grade in your AP course. So basically, don’t worry until you actually get to college about the score.

I don’t see how the universities could possibly look down on a bad score, even if it is a 2. For one, they have no idea what the teacher is like. Sometimes it is the teachers’ faults when students score badly, since some teachers don’t bother to cover all the material or wait until April to start speeding through a big amount of the material (I think that was my case in half the AP classes I took). Since the school has no way of knowing what went on in the classroom, I don’t see how a bad score can hurt you.

honestly, I’m not sure if you can leave the AP bio grade off, but if i had to take a guess I’d say no. you might be able to pay some sort of fee, but the college board is really good at making sure you are thoroughly humiliated. by the way, the 5 on the Spanish exam is phenomenal, and you should not worry at all that that score is much higher than bio. Both exams are known to be pretty hard, but the Spanish exam (along with the other languages) are supposed to be ridiculous. the Spanish exam is also easier for native speakers (apparently, i don’t know, and i am not trying to downgrade your score). still, bio and Spanish are not really related, so colleges won’t think that you some how made up the Spanish grade. besides, that would be pretty freaking hard to do, right?

Just relax. Personally, I also got a 3 on the AP Bio exam. Yes, to my knowledge you can choose not to send in AP scores to colleges, however that is pointless. If it is a low score, they will just ignore it. Also, they will never doubt the validity of a score just because other scores are low.

Also, if you want to go to UCB, make sure your GPA and SAT are up to par as well. UCs mostly look at your GPA and SAT, and just the fact that you took an AP class means that you are challenging yourself.

Good luck getting into Berkeley!

Relax, a 3 is still a pretty decent score, and if you got a good grade in class then it’s more important that you even took an AP class at all. Colleges take only your higher grades, especially on optional tests like the AP. Good luck!

OK calm down!!!!! AP scores will NEVER hurt you, they will only help you! Listen to this revelation college board made, oh, say, 50 years ago when they made the exams: A 3 IS PASSING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And of course they will not wonder if your AP Spanish was a real 5. AP doesn’t lie.

You can take it off your transcript (at my school) if you pay a fee. Ask your counselor if you can take it off your transcript. But, just saying, it would be pointless to take it off because then colleges would think that you took the class for nothing. The main reason people take the class is to take the exam and impress colleges. It’s pretty impressive already that you took an AP. I would keep it if I were you.

Study harder next time. It’s still a decent score, though.

I doubt they will think that about your Spanish exam, but they will see that you are Mexican-American and might assume that it is your 1st language and therefore you are fluent in it, which led to your 5. But a 3 isn’t all that bad-at least you passed, it is definitely better than a 2 or 1. So be content.

You should stop freaking out, for starters. D:

And AP scores, from my understanding, do not affect college applications at all. They’re used primarily to get out of college courses… not so much for admissions.

I would worry more about SAT scores, grades, and extracurriculars than AP test scores. Yep.

And a three is fine. So don’t worry about it. x3;

I don’t know what the scoring system is, but a 3 is probably average — not enough to disqualify you from consideration to any school. It is not a good idea, however, to withhold information or grades. You’ll most likely be found out, and that definitely would hurt your chances. Go ahead and apply, but be honest. Your racial status should not have any influence on your qualifications.

By all means send it in. It shows a level of dedication and puts you above all of the kids who don’t take the AP exam or don’t send it in.
