When I left home for the university, I lived in a dorm with 400 other students. It was never quiet. 24/7 there were radios blaring and people coming and going. I learned to sleep through all that with no problem, but I could not study there. So I became a regular at the library. That’s my tip… find a nice quiet place where there are no distractions. In the spring, I sometimes walked over to a nearby park where there was little activityand worked on a park bench under a tree.

It helps, in my case, if you listen to music without words that you enjoy. If the song has words in it, I’ve found that I get distracted and focus more on what the song’s saying than what I’m reading or looking at, but if there’s no words, everything seems to stick a little better.

Also, note cards are awesome for me when it comes to studying because I’m constantly on the go and don’t normally have a lot of time, or space, to pull out a book and start studying.

Sit straight up in a chair. Have adequate lighting. Gather all needed tools beforehand (pencils, pens, laptop, notebook, etc).

Have a quiet area where you can study and minimize distractions. Turn off the cellphone. Take breaks every hour or so. You can have a bottle of water with you or some tea or something to sip (unless you are in the library).

First create a study place if you don’t already have one… make it somewhere quiet. Organize your work space so you don’t have to go digging through your stuff. Don’t turn on any music, watch TV, or talk on the phone because you don’t want to be distracted. Then study! Read through all your notes a few times, and then quiz yourself!

-use flashcards

– have somebody quiz you

– buy a wipe board and write down the answers on that

– make up a song if its memorizing
