Washington State Citizens Only Please: WASL?

What is your take on the WASL and the fact that it is a graduation requirement? I personally don’t think that it’s fair for it to be required to graduate. What’s your opinion?

My take on the WASL is that I heard also that there are alot of kinks in it too. But, I also heard that if you don’t pass it in the 10th grade, you will not graduate at all. If there is an alternate route other than homeschooling, please let me know. I don’t think the test is fair because kids are all different and they expect all kids to pass it the same and they arent.

From my understanding, there are still some problems with the WASL. It isn’t a well-written assessment. I thought I heard that the graduate requirement has been waived for the time being until they can work out the kinks.

And most schools should have an alternate route to graduation in place just in case someone simply cannot pass the test. There are other ways to document competency in subject matter.

Most states now have some form of the WASL that students must pass in order to graduate, like Idaho has the ISAT. Some are harder than others. The ISAT is just a multiple choice test, whereas the WASL actually requires writing (which I think is a good thing).

The idea is to make a high school diploma mean something. If you can pass the exam, then you know everything that is expected of you. The state needs to figure out what is going on with math (the standards don’t meet what is on the test), but they are working on it.
