Many colleges accept either. But you’re going to have to do ACT + writing. Some people find the SAT easier, and some find the ACT easier. You just have to see. Personally, I like the SAT better.

Most students find that one is easier than the other, but for every individual, it’s different. The SAT is more of a how-well-you-can-take-the-SAT test, whereas the ACT is more of a content, school material-based test. The ACT is shorter in administration time, even with the writing test. The SAT’s math technically does not require anything past Algebra II, but the ACT math questions, once you’ve had Precalculus, are much more straightforward. The ACT does not test vocabulary as directly as the SAT because it does not have sentence completions. The ACT does have a science section that asks for graph and chart interpretations (no previous scientific knowledge), which the SAT does not have.

In my opinion, unless you get a perfect score or close to it in the first shot, every student should take both tests because every student is different and might do better on one test than the other. I got a perfect ACT composite on my first try as a sophomore, but I never got quite up there on my SAT, even with repeated testing.

Either will work. However, here is what my SAT tutor told me:

The SAT is trying to trick you into picking the easiest answer. It does not test your intelligence, just how well you can take a test.

The ACT is a test of your knowledge. Therefore, it is better for some people. The ACT is better for many people who aren’t good test takers. The ACT also has science sections, whereas the SAT does not. So, if you are good at science and want a test based on your knowledge, take the ACT. If you are a good test taker, take the SAT.

By the way, ALL colleges (I’m not sure about community colleges) are REQUIRED by law to take the SAT and ACT and judge them equally.

maximum scholars discover that one is way less complicated than the different, yet for each guy or woman, it is distinctive. The SAT is extra of a how-nicely-you-can-take-the-SAT attempt, while the ACT is extra of a content, college cloth-based attempt. The ACT is shorter in administration time, regardless of the writing attempt. The SAT’s math technically would not require something previous Algebra II, however the ACT math questions, as quickly as you have had Precalculus, are plenty much less complicated. The ACT would not attempt vocabulary as immediately through fact the SAT through fact it would not have sentence completions. The ACT does have a technology section that asks for graph and chart interpretations (no previous medical understanding), which the SAT would not have. for my section, until eventually you get a suited score or on the brink of it in the 1st shot, each pupil could take the two tests through fact each pupil is distinctive and could do extra effective on one attempt than the different. I have been given a suited ACT composite on my first attempt as a sophomore, yet I by no ability have been given extremely up there on my SAT, regardless of repeated finding out.

Most colleges have a preference, so find out what they want. Many colleges are no longer requiring the SAT I for interesting reasons. So, to be sure, take both.

There is some snobbery to the SAT, as it is out of Princeton NJ and the ACT is out of Iowa City Iowa. Note that Iowa students always have the highest average scores of all states on the SAT.

It is important to note that they are different tests in many ways. The ACT is much more like a collection of SAT II exams and generates five scores.

Honestly, take the SATs. The SATs are more widely known and accepted by public colleges. However, if you have taken the SATs and are still not satisfied with your scores (you know you can take the SATs more than once right?), you can take the ACTs. Keep in mind that there is also SAT subject testing that many colleges require you take (to show your capabilities).

Look on collegeboard.com for more details.

I took the ACT because they don’t count points off for guessing. I didn’t test well in the math section because I only finished half of the questions, but I know that through guessing I got some more answers right! So go ACT!

It doesn’t matter, really. Most colleges accept either. It’s a good idea to take both just to see which one you like. And if (or when) you take the ACT, be sure to take + writing, because some colleges require it.
