Praxis Test I… Studying Questions?

This question is for those of you that have taken the Praxis I test. It is the test that you have to take to become a school teacher, while in college.

Do you have any tips or suggestions for studying for this test, or group of test?

Are there any books, or web links, and yes I have googled, but I am looking for more of a personal opinion on what may have actually helped you take and pass the test?

This is in the math and science area simply because I feel that is where I would like to find the most information to help me prepare for this test, but I am open to all areas of the Praxis test.

Thanks for any input!

I took the Praxis I last year and it covers Reading, Writing, and Math, no Science. I used a study guide from ETS Praxis Series to study for it. It is the official study guide and it contains genuine PPST Tests from previous years with answer keys. The study guide tells you exactly what areas you need to study in each area. I found it to be extremely helpful. I can say with certainty that there were examples of each kind of problem and question that I found in the study guide on the test. You are also given test taking strategies. If you feel that you need extra practice then try going to your library and checking out workbooks. There is a wonderful series of books called “Test Yourself” available for just about every subject. These and other workbooks that you may run into will most likely be helpful as supplementals.

You can find the ETS Praxis I study guide at a lot of different bookstores. You may want to call ahead before you go out and have one reserved for you. Most stores only get a certain amount at certain times of the year and there are a lot of education majors in certain areas. I actually bought mine on ebay. It was used but in excellent condition.

Of course, you can get it directly from ETS.

Praxis I is only math, reading, and writing. I thought it was very easy. It’s on a high school level. It is very similar to the SAT, so if you feel the need to study, look at some SAT prep books.
