When the lowest quiz score is dropped the average of her remaining three test scores goes up to a 94 points. What was the score of the dropped test?

The answer is 74.

Since the average of the first 4 quizzes was 89, the total points earned for the first 4 quizzes was 89 times 4, or 356.

The average of the highest 3 quizzes was 94, so the total points earned for the highest 3 quizzes was 94 times 3, or 282. If you subtract the total of the highest three quizzes from the total for all 4 quizzes, you get the answer 356 minus 282, or 74.
