Well, there are two types of grades you are aiming for: High school grades and THE AP grade. If all you really care about is that 3 or better on the exam, just study with review book. If you are taking AP Bio, I’d suggest Cliffs. For any history, I’d suggest Princeton Review. Trust me, I got a 5 on all my AP exams. If the quarter grades are also a priority for you, you might have to read the textbook chapters in the textbook because that is what the class tests are based on. I know, I HATED my Campbell Biology textbook with passion but but I wanted good grades so my reading payed off. As an AP student, you must have good reading habits. That means spending more than an hour every other day, if not everyday, on reading textbook chapters (especially for bio, U.S. history and World history. for physics, don’t bother. reading equations doesn’t help. Definitely use the Princeton review book for physics). For me personally, I never even bothered with class notes. However, taking your own notes helps A LOT but that takes time. damn, i wrote a whole essay. i hope this helps! Good Luck!

A good study habit is to never fall behind.

Use your notebook wisely.

Do not write in the margins, and only write on one side of the page. After class, when you are home, take out your text book and notes and go over the day’s material for about half an hour. On the pages that you didn’t write on, complete your notes with any additional but useful information. In the margins of your notebook, put your questions to ask your teacher.

And remember, when a teacher lectures, focus on them and not on the board where they are writing notes. I know it sounds weird, but after a few days of doing this you’ll begin to pick up important things in the teacher’s verbal lecture that usually they forget to put in the actual written notes. Also, you’ll better hear the stresses in their voice which will indicate important topics/ideas to study.

Good luck! Hope you do well on your AP exam.
