I got a 1620 on my last PSAT; is that good enough or should I take it again?

The “P” in PSAT means practice….a 1620 on a pretend test is great. No sense wasting time or money on something no college admissions board uses. It’s time to do the real thing: the SAT. A “good enough” score varies depending on which colleges/universities you apply to for post-high school education.

I’d say no. The PSAT is a “low-stakes” test — it doesn’t have an important impact on your future. A 1620 helps you know what to expect on the SAT… that’s the primary value of the test, and since you already have that, you don’t need to take it again.

Use the PSAT results to figure out where your weaknesses are, and put your time into studying for the real SAT.

The actual PSAT/NMSQT is out of 240, not 2400… each section is out of 80. If you have the opportunity to take the PSAT again, you might as well– if this was your sophomore year, you can take it your junior year. It’s good practice.

If you’re just talking about taking a practice test, take as many as you can, then go out and take the real SAT as many times as you can. Only your top score matters, and the more practice you can get, the better.

Good luck!

You should take it again. When I first took the SAT, my score was low in the mid 1700s but then I got the sat guide from guideparadise: http://www.guideparadise.com/index.php?option=com_guides&task=buy&id=10 and my score went up to 2190 (800 math, 760 writing, 630 reading). I highly recommend this guide for anyone wishing to get a higher SAT score.

Um….

Well, you kind of have to take it as a junior, or at least you had to at my high school when I was there. And there’s no reason not to do so because it was free and worth scholarship money if you got a high enough score, which you didn’t really meet. So, yeah, you really don’t even have a choice. You kind of have to take it again.

Are you trying to get a NMS (National Merit Scholarship)?

If not, then forget about the PSAT and focus on SAT or ACT.

it depends…

1) do you think that you did your best?

2) do you WANT to take it again?

3) do you truly think that you can do better on it this time than the first time?
