Put ear plugs in.. so that you pay no attention to anyone watching you and as well as any mistakes you may make. This way, as long as you have practiced, the pressure is off of you for the time being.

Oh man, I know how you feel. I play the piano myself, as well as saxophone. I have not been tested for piano, but I have participated NYSSMA for saxophone. (New York State Student Music Association.) You really just have to have confidence. Practice until you have the music down perfect, and keep telling yourself that you will do well. Try to also talk to others taking the same exam or those who have already. That will help to make sure you don’t feel alone in this. Good luck!

I don’t know that this can be avoided as I think most of us get nervous when we’re being tested.

I took lessons as a kid and always got very nervous, yet did very well. Honors or first class Honors. The one time I felt totally confident I blew it – had to even open a book for one of my pieces. I was devastated as I was better prepared for that exam than any of the others. So for me being nervous is a good thing.

I usually just listen to music or read a book before going to an exam. It always helps me, and just totally don’t even think about it, just pretend you’re at your home, practicing. I zone out and just play.

Imagine it’s just you and the piano and give it all you have
