I think they(the schools) are afraid to teach about safe sex because they think they would be telling the students it is ok to have sex. I feel that they should teach the kids that it is better to wait, but if you are going to have sex how to have it responsibly – using a condom, that you dont have to have intercourse to get pregnant, etc.

Some of the things you mentioned are taught starting around 5th grade – what happens when a girl has her period, puberty, things similar to that. My neice just saw the video this spring, and we did have some fun comparing it to what I saw 25 yrs ago, and my mothers about 60 yrs ago!

Most parents do not want people teaching there kids about this and feel they should do it but then the parents don’t teach there kids about it. I think that abstinence is the best way for kids but I feel that they need to be taught about safe sex also and I once had a job where I could only talk about Abstinence or I would get fired it was even part of my contact and when kids had questions I couldnt answer them. So since the schools and parents aren’t teaching it to the kids who is left the TV, media and movies stars and look where that is getting us these days!!

Not sure where you’re from, but in this part of Florida kids are taught about condoms, STDs, and their periods…. Abstinence is given as the method of choice because otherwise parents (many of whom rarely give the information to their own kids) would freak out and sue the school districts if they in any way suggested that having sex was okay.
