Maybe at the end of the week or two weeks how ever long it takes to do the projacts have a harvest party in the class room. where kids can bring juice (apple since it is apple season), pumpkin pie pumpkin bread, apples plates juice and so on.) this would be a way to reward learning and to do fun projects

Positive Actions bring Positive Thoughts bring Positive Feelings (Emotions)

Since I’m not sure what age group or disability group or level you are working with, here are some quick ideas–maybe you can adapt them:

Either have the students draw or you provide a worksheet with a circle that has arrows connecting the 3 sections and discuss the interrelationships between thoughts, feelings, and actions. You can start anywhere on the circle because they feed on each other.

Role play positive attitudes that you would like to see.

Brainstorm positive answers to different conversation starters so that the kids have some basic positive responses rather than not knowing what to say, so they sound sarcastic.

Set up classroom rules that focus on positives and things you would like to see. That sets the tone for your classroom.

You could also have a poster or make a handout of about 5-10 various feelings and have your students self-monitor their emotions over the course of a day or several days. Then discuss what they were doing or who they were with when they had a positive attitude. Encourage them to select friends and mentors who build them up.

Also, just to encourage you (especially if you are working with kids with special needs) this is probably an on-going training issue rather than a hit-or-miss activity session and then expecting positive attitudes every day. The nature of kids who are dealing with special issues is they often just don’t know how or just don’t feel positive. You are a terrific teacher to want to make a difference!!
