From who’s perspective, the teacher or the students? Its a lot of work to design and carry off these things for the teacher. For the students, I think it doesn’t benefit the advanced students much, but it tends to advantage the other students in the collaborative group working with the advanced student, if you are talking pure academics. The other advantage for all students is socialization and learning to work with others.

Collaborative Learning when executed correctly, should benefit ALL students in one way or another. For example, it definitely helps students with disabilities. The goal is to INCLUDE all students within the classroom and collaborative learning allows that to happen. The students gain social skills just from being around peers. When planning for collaborative learning, it is important to remember that each student is different and therefore the goal you want them to achieve will be different as well. One student may benefit from working with other students in gaining comprehension while an advanced student will gain teaching skills or compassion. You have to think “What will each student gain by collaborating?” If you cannot figure out a way to have each student gain something then rethink your plan.

There are no advantages to collaborative learning. Students without special needs are selfish. They don’t want the special needs students interfering with their education. We live in a selfish world. That’s just how it is. If you support inclusive schools, our world would be a better place. Most people in this world are selfish. They don’t think that children should learn together.
