Back to college later in life- HELP!?

I am actually only 20 years old and a junior in college right now. I am graduating soon and I am off to graduate school for physical therapy. Although this is an interesting course for me, I was thinking about trying for medical school in the future. The only problem is, i need a few more classes (like organic chemistry and calculus.) Is it possible to simply go back to college later in life to complete just a few courses in a single semester so I may have all my pre-requisites needed to apply to medical school? Would i have to go to community college, or would a full time university like UF acccept me just for a single semester, part time, to be able to compelte just a few needed classes?

It is possible to go back to college later in life and do just those few courses, via continuing education. You wouldn’t need to tranfer in, or enroll full time. There are even universities that offer special programs to prep students, who already have bachelor’s degrees, for med school. All that is possible.

However, you have an interest in PT, *and* you want to be a doctor. Why not study to become a doctor of Physical Therapy? Is this the grad study you’re planning? This is a growing, and in-demand field. It may provide you with what you’re looking for – a good combo. I’ll link to a summary of what this is about, below.

I haven’t done it personally… but my uncle has. He graduated high school not so successfully. He attempted to go to college but it was too difficult for him. So, he enlisted into the air force [im NOT telling you to do this, btw] and he “accidentally” raised a family. Well.. since then, he has become a LOT more responsible. He’s 26 and is in college right now studying and becoming what he’s always wanted to be. I know that people think that if you quit college, you’ll end up as a failure. But if you choose something you like, you will definitely succeed and even have a better life.

Yes, you can attend any university for one class, if you want.

Be sure that the courses you take are Major level courses. If the course is a Major level course it doesn’t matter if the school is a university or a community college (but be very sure about the level of the course should you choose a community college).

You need to think realistically about your chances of getting into Medical School. If your GPA and MCAT are exceptionally good, you can do a part-time return to fill in “pre-requisites” – but you’re competing against “professional” students who have been campaigning for a spot in Medical School for many years.

Have you thought about being a Physician’s Assistant ?

Continue with your job and go for you goal to be a medical student.Take night classes or classes after work. Study in the morning and at night when you get home or on weekends etc. You can do it just keep trudging along even if it takes you 10 years you’ll eventually finish your dream. 🙂

Why not try Night Classes, Correspondence or Web Based credit courses?
