What is the purpose of life?
Favorite Answer
“Unless you assume a God, the question of life’s purpose is meaningless.” –Bertrand Russell (Russell was a noted 20th century philosopher and atheist)
One answer above was, “scientifically? to reproduce and let the species thrive.” Science does not deal in purposes. Evolution is a natural process, like weather for example. Evolution can no more give us purpose than a cloud has a purpose in mind for a raindrop.
Another answer was, “Everyone has a different purpose, so what ever you do with your life is your purpose.” This approach just forgets entirely about purpose. Just do whatever you feel like doing.
If we reject God, then life is truly purposeless, meaningless, pointless and our lives are worthless. All we can do is some activities that help us feel good about ourselves and/or forget about our meaningless existence.
If we admit that God might exist, then it must be that God put our great need for purpose into our nature to point us to seek Him. So I think seeking God is our purpose.
