what is the proper way to write a url in a proffesional document?

do I add the http://? am i supposed to italicize it? do i put it in quotes?

the below-listed URL is how it should appear. you DO include thehttp://, do not italicize nor place it in quotes. Do not place a period or other punctuation-mark adjacent to the final character in the URL, even when the standard conventions of punctuation would dictate that such be added, as that will render the URL inoperative. In programs such as “Word”, a URL will get rendered in blue automatically, and this is the accepted standard. If you cut-and-paste a URL into a document, it will include all the necessary parts, and this is the recommended way, as it eliminates inaccuracies due to omission or typos.
