“sic” is the Latin word meaning “so” or “thus”.

When “[sic]” is used after a printed word or passage, it indicates that the preceding word or passage exactly reproduces the original and that if there is a mistake, an uncommon usage, an archaic usage, an incongruity or an absurdity in the preceding word, passage, grammar or fact, then that is reproduced deliberately.

Example:

Tom said he seed [sic] it all.

The House of Representatives shall chuse [sic] their Speaker.

[Sic] is used in quotations to clarify that incorrect or unusual spelling, grammar, etc., occurred in the original quoted material. Those errors are reproduced on purpose and are not transcription errors.
