What does this quote mean?

“ I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.”

-Albert Einstein

I heard this somewhere and I wasn’t positive what it meant. I think it means that WWW III would deplete enough resources that the only thing left to fight with would be sticks and stones. Is that right?

Albert Einstein was not only a Scientist but a great philosopher as well.

He saw the WWII in action. He saw the making of Atom Bomb and its scare in the world community. After WWII, there will be WW III for sure, which we are experiencing currently.

As a philosopher, we knew and he foresaw that some good leaders in world will ensure that there will be total elimination of weapons of all kinds. If one has to fight, they have to use their hands. Any weapon at their disposal will only be stones and sticks.

Albert Einstein continually analyzes technology and innovation. At the same time he commended the idea of resources, another words, value what we have and keep it because eventually there will be nothing left. World War 3 would simply be a downscale of World War 2, and eventually, by the time World War 4 comes aroundt here will be nothing left. The president simply used up too much natural resources during World War 1 and even more during World War 2, if you remember, during the World War 2 era there was hardly anything left for anyone. Natural resources were very scarce and the whole economy was drained, therefore, by World War 4, there will be nothing left, the whole United States will be drained, and there will be nothing to fight with but sticks and stones.

After World War III, there will be nothing left. We have the most advanced systems now that can kill everyone in the world will little more than the push of a button. After WWIII there will be nothing left to fight with but sticks and stones and yet after such a war, anger adn violence will still prevail. WW IV will be fought with whatever is left and in this case – sticks and stones.

I think besides consuming resources that he meant that weaponry would continue to advance to the point that the next World war would destroy everything – bomb us back into the Stone Age. I don’t know when exactly he said this, but I do remember that during the Cold War, the notion of “mutually assured destruction” was the way defense was looked at. The idea was that if each of us had the firepower to destroy the entire world many times over, no one would escalate fighting to the point of nuclear attack because one’s own destruction was also ensured. Thus, if we DID have a WWIII, we could also be assured of destroying our civilization, at the very least.

Albert Einstein is making a comment that WWIII will destroy the world to the point that if there were a WWIV, the only weapons would be that of primitive sticks and stones because everything else would have been destroyed in WWIII

well, you know the saying “sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me”? i think that Einstein was trying to say that when we get to WW IV, words can no longer help us, like negotiations. i don’t know for sure, its just a guess

I think what you said is pretty good, I think it just means that with a WWIII we will destroy ourselves so badly that all that will be left for a WWIV will be the most primitive of things.
