It’s the honor and pride one feels when dressed in a confederate uniform of “rebel gray”.

It’s the resistance one demonstrates against a tyrant (in particular “federal”) government.

Hope.

To me that would mean an individual who is gray in personality. That when they walk out the door they haven’t learned how to change their apperance to now show the world everything that is going on. When someone is gray they are down. So maybe that means they are down all the time so they are wearing it.

“Wearing of the Gray” is a post-Civil war confederate song that was composed by a man named Benjamin Tubb. There is also a 1867 book written by John Esten Cooke with the same title.

I think that the meaning of it has to do with having pride, even in defeat, much like the confederate soldiers dealt with after the Civil war ended.

Wearing something that’s gray colored…

Personally, I like the “wearing of the purple.” Purple’s my favorite color.

I dunno maybe it’s meaning to appreciate getting older and loving it. Not being afraid to “wear the gray” hair, etc.
