Article titles go in quotes; longer works are italicized or underlined (underlining is the copy-editor’s way of indicating italics).
So if you’re citing a magazine article, it might look sort of like this:
Cleaver, Theodore. “Mom liked Wally more than me.” _Today’s parent_ (New York). Vol. 63, no. 8 (August 1969), pp 16-22.
