You say the opposite. That people love what they posses, not only what they want. A lot of people are very grateful for what they have, but a lot of people also only love what they don’t have, as this quote says.

It’s not a matter of “loving” what we don’t possess. It’s a matter of “lusting” after and wanting what we don’t have. Some people lust after things(and people) thinking they love it and have to have it. Once they have it, they don’t want it anymore, because they never loved it in the first place. They lusted after it, got a taste of it and it wasn’t all that. So they move on to the next thing they “love”. Hope i wasn’t confusing.

My grandparents were married for 53 years and loved eachother. People love a lot of things they have, their kids, wives, jobs, hobbies…etc. the quote seems to pertain more to “wanting” rather than loving. in order love something or someone you really have to know it. so to love something you don’t have doesn’t make sense, it’s not love its envy.

Brutal dictators will kill many to keep control of their countries. They clearly love the power which they completely possess.

We hate what we have until someone else wants it.
