My SAT score?

I got a 610 on critical reading

a 450 on math

and a 640 on writing.

It totals to 1700, what does that mean for me?

Average for each section is about a 500, so you did slightly better than average. If you want to see how you compare to people at certain colleges, you can use the College QuickFinder function at www.collegeboard.com. Remember, though, that the SAT is not an end-all test; it’s one of several components that colleges use to determine acceptance.

Most colleges currently do not take the Writing portion of the SAT II into account when looking over applications (it is still in it’s infancy and they aren’t sure how accurate of a test it is). So as far as colleges are concerned, the only important scores are in Critical Reading and Math, the portions that made up the original SAT I. 500 in any section is considered ‘average’, and anything beneath that is lower than average, and above it, higher. Certain scholarships are dependent on your SAT I score – in order to receive them, you must qualify with a certain score.
