Have you missed something out of the quote?

It doesn’t really make sense. Should it not be “there is more hunger for love and appreciation in this world than there is for bread”?

First of all I think Mother Theresa was really cool… she DID things more often than she said things for people to quote.

So I’m not familiar with Mother Theresa quotes. However because she did her best to take care of all the needs of the poor in her country (and maybe others), I’d say she knew what the poor need most:

“…love and appreciation….” She said that those poor who need bread also need to be shown love and appreciation for their ideas and their ambitions…In fact they need that more than they need to eat, even!

Very interesting approach and observation, huh? A lot of folks in this world think people/countries should just throw money at problems like poverty, but Mother Theresa said a different thing is needed than that, and I understand it to be Time…the very thing people insist they don’t have.

Yeah, she was okay.

Thanks for your question! ;-}

What it means is this: People in this world are more deprived of attention than they are deprived of things to eat. Many people we see every day are actually not physically hungry in their stomachs but hungry for love, or attention. And to solve that problem we don’t need to give them money, but give them what they’re begging for, which is just a little compliment or something!

Good luck in feeding the world!!

it means that even though there are a lot of people starving for food, even more people are starving for love and attention and appreciation, and that that hunger can be just as important to our humanity.

here’s another quote of hers that i love:

On Earth, you can do only little things;

but you can do them with a lot of Love.

–Mother Theresa

It means that there are more people out there that simply need love and appreciation than there are people literally starving to death for food.

This is a reflection on all the so-called “humanitarian” organisations (UNESCO is a prime example) who think they help impoverished people by supplying only food and such basic necessities. The old Chinese proverb says: “Give a man a fish, and you feed him for one meal; give him a fishing rod and teach him how to use it, and you feed him for the rest of his days!” Although food- and medicinal aid is always welcome to people starving and dying of diseases, imrpoving their living conditions by assisting them to create a better environment, is more sustainable, than merely bringing temporary relief.

I think it means that someone would be more happy with just something simple but true, than something that is not true like money but no love.
