Polysemy means the ambiguity of an individual word or phrase that can be used (in different contexts) to express two or more different meanings. As for ur other half question….Zzzzzzzz how can u remove some words from English language???? it’s a script and u modify the script with viable reasons and meanings. U form a language with some basic rules adapted from ancient times. Only the masters of that language can add or modify the present words.

For eg. People from UK and USA are both english speaking but both have a difference in the english that they speak and write , if these countries want and get some adequate reason as to why a particular word has to be omitted they wud be the ones to decide it. For eg. take into consideration ur own mother tongue…if ur country has it’s origin then only ur country has teh right to do the changes to the script. But on a whole in general no script has ever removed some words just like that but with proper explanation they have modified the language and meanings. Over the years there have been many new words introduced but the old words are not forgotten but merely not used that much.

Polysemy is where a word has several meanings. You can’t remove words from the language. If you think you can – good luck.

According to “dictionary.com” polysemy is a noun meaning a diversity of meaning. Examples they gave are “play” and “table” which have a number of meanings.

It ain’t possible to remove words from the English language :o)

(I’ve been told “ain’t” isn’t a word for over 45 years, but it is still in many dictionaries!!!) There are lots of words I’d like to remove…but it seems much easier to add words–like yada yada yada or blogging, spamming….

Good questions!
