The “company”, I believe, is his own thoughts. And he’s free to entertain his thoughts when nobody is around (or calling) to interrupt him.

I think he’s basically trying to say that he’s quite happy to be alone, and doesn’t become lonely. It’s probably wrong, but I hope it helps! <3
