Can you still receive student loans for a technical school that doesn’t take federal loans ?
I am planning on attending my local techinical school in January. I guess I will be able to get a Pell Grant but I have to take a Math class not including in my majors core classes. I am worried that the Pell won’t pay for this class. I really don’t have much money to pay out of pocket for the class. I am trying not to get discouraged about attending school because I really need to begin. I have been out of high school for 7 years and I’m afraid if I wait any longer , I won’t go at all.I have 1 child (18 months) and want to attend before he gets to old. Any information is appreciated.

You’ll have to contact the school and ask them.Explain your situation.I think if its a technical school, you will have to take out a loan. And you mentioned poor credit, you will need a co-signer.Dont get discourgaged,it will work out!Good luck to you!

Honestly, you shouldn’t count on a Pell Grant, especially if you’re going to a school that doesn’t get federal loans. If you do get a Pell Grant, it will be for the Fall 2008 semester, not for January, since it’s dependent on the FAFSA. You can still get a private student loan, which will have a lower interest rate, but will not be subsidized.
