Can I use one quotation for two sentences that are separated by more than a page in the original text?
There are two sentences in a book (novel) I am reading, that I want to quote in the same quotation. The problem is that one is on pg. 254 and the other is on pg. 257 (I only gave the exact pages so I could show that they were separated.) I want to know if I could start my quotation with the first sentence, use ellipses, and end with my quotation with the other sentence. Sorry, that kinda sounds confusing but I’m not sure how to explain it.
This is what I mean:
“sentence 1 on pg 254…sentence 2 on pg 257.”
The same character says both sentences, but there are story details and other people speaking in between in the actual novel.
So if anyone can help or give a link to site that may have the answer, I’d greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
