Jay… if you want to “make it” then do it! Seriously you are the only person standing in your way. If you worry about the things you haven’t done… you won’t be able to focus on what you can do! The best part about life after high school is that you don’t have to be who you think everyone else wants you to be! You get to find out who you are and just be yourself! So decide who you want to become and make it happen! Best of luck! :o)

I think you will make it, but I believe that in the end it always works out.

I would suggest spending a year or two at a community or junior college close to home. Work part time, live at home and save up. After a couple of years decide where you want to go. Make sure you have enough to live for a year wherever you are moving to.

After you move work for a year or however long it takes to be considered a resident of the state so you do not have to pay out of state tuition. Then go back to school. If you have gone to a community college and done ok or even better finished your associates you should have no issue enrolling in a 4 yr college.

Another option is to go ahead and apply to 4 yr colleges in state. This is only if you really want to go there. One is likely to accept you. The care as much about SAT and ACT scores as they do about other activities. I made the mistake of thinking that is what I wanted to do. After flunking out I followed the plan above going to a 2 year school and working part time, and ended up much happier in the end.

No matter what you will make it. How successful you are is up to you. And as a long time Colorado resident I would suggest the great state as the place to live. Just avoid Greeley as it really does smell like cow manure.

First, there is nothing wrong with community college and if you don’t know what you want to do, community college is less expensive to cover core classes that you would need anyway.

Second, there is nothing wrong with taking a break for a year between HS and college. Work (at a job that has some future value in a possible area you might consider later in life), save your money and go from there. Remember, even “getting away” costs money. Go hike the Appalachian Trail, do some wilderness camping or combine work and getting away by working at a Dude ranch out in Wyoming (Hard work but what a view and great experience!)

Honestly, if you don’t know what direction you want to go in life after high school, sometimes it is preferable to take a break and evaluate what goals you need to set for your future.

Best wishes!

Don’t be so quick to think no 4 year universities will want you just because you never joined anything. People get so hung up on high school and still try to live the same way when they go to college. It is a whole new ballgame with new people figuring out the same thing—who am I really??? You will look back on your high school classmates (if you don’t already :)) and think that their priorities are soooo out of whack.

Decide what you want to do (even if it is just see something new) and go for it. If you go where you truly want to go then you won’t regret it.

Good luck and don’t sell yourself too short. You sound mature enough to make the right decision in the end.

I was always told that everyone and anyone has the potential to graduate high school and go to college. You just have to find a college that suits you academically and your schedule. Most colleges accept average students (except Harvard or Yale, thats a given). Some research is involved, so do as much as you can your senior year. Plus, look for scholarships! They help!! Its free money.

Ask a guidance counselor for help if you need it. Most of them care when it comes to your future. I don’t know about yours so I can’t guarantee that. Honestly, my counselor didn’t do squat for me!
