The term “teacher” usually refers to a person teaching in a classroom in grades K-12. An “educator” is a broader term which encompasses teachers, professors, administration and even other support staff. Remember even a doctor could be an “educator” if she is teaching her patients about health. Also, many like the term “educator” because of the positive implications. Too many of us have bad memories related to our “teachers.”

Mr. Cellophane
a “Teacher” just does that. Teaches. An “educator” not only teaches but adds real life experiences to it. I had the teachers that “taught from the book” and i’ve had ones that taught from the book but added their own personal experiences or experiences they had read about. A Teacher only teaches and doesn’t really get involved with their students unless “ordered” by their principal. Educators are involved and know their students.

I appreciate the first answer to your question. I understand the thinking behind it, but I don’t believe that there really is a difference. In my mind teach and educate are synonyms. What do you think the difference is?
